Ran this canyon with Ray, Olivia, Eden, Brooke and Kyler during spring break. Access to canyon was straightforward. Found several unavoidable potholes at the beginning of the hike but then encountered three unavoidable swimmers. I needed a little boost to get out of the second pothole (I think Olivia, Eden, and Kyler did as well) but Ray and Brooke were able to get out unassisted. Water was frigid because nighttime temps are still in the low 40s even though daytime temps neared 90 degrees. Wouldn't want to stay in the water long so getting out quickly was important. Tops of the raps were tight but not difficult. Ray definitely stepped in some quicksand on the walk out. He also lost his ascender in the pool at the bottom of the second rappel. Ray really enjoyed the challenge of the potholes as this is the first time we have encountered unavoidable potholes with water in them.

Forgot to mention the first two potholes smelt like manure

Eli, Mac, Torrey. Bit of an epic. Forgot the rope and noticed at the 3rd pothole. Eli was able to boost Torrey back up the 1st pothole. Found out the rope was too short at the last rappel. Left the rope after a horrendous hike out… type 2 fun

With Corina and Alex, their first canyon. 10/10 pot holes were nearly empty partner assist was enough.

Ran with the same Moab crew as U-Turn, minus Kyle. Managed to get Logan's mega bus in the park, so we all liked in from the Visitor Center. Real fun and straightforward. Three potholes were full swimmers, no one had much trouble getting out. Really pretty and fun seeing everyone hop into the water. Final rappel was my favorite part. Biner block and pull cord system worked great.

Awesome! Weather was perfect. Water was cold. I didn’t like the tight slot before the last rappel.

Not bad not great wouldn't do it again probably. nice little jaunt before heading home though.

Pete, David, Michelle, J & F. Fun! Potholes about half full and easily escaped. Good trail to start and route-finding on the short-cut return not severe. Use the canyon across from the balanced rim boulder to exit Courthouse Wash.

With Ben - 3 hours car to car. Good canyon - need at least 70m for second rappel - better done with two ropes

Ben. Easy to spot the sign from the pulloff (second of two before petrified dunes), lots of cairns. Cannonball pool great way to cool off. Pack the rope after the first rap. Second rap is a bit awkward. Long hike out in deep soft sand. Shuttle recommended at Courthouse. Could hitch.

Medium water levels, all potholes had water (knee deep in the second and last one was deep enough to swim). Bolted anchors with long sling, 150'static single line reached comfortably.

Doug Folland led Jordan and myself thru this canyon. Started at 1 pm, finished around 3:30 pm.

no avoiding the pothole going to get wet

05/04/2017

Only had one pothole filled with water during our trip. Great canyon for a quick trip.

03/21/2017

Rather dry--only needed to get wet in last pot hole before the 1st rap. Middle is deep, and can be jumped into, but a ledge on the right side allowed for a waist deep crossing.

First I want to commend Ryan on his absolutely fabulous directions. A+ Second I want to highly recommend to anyone doing this canyon in the colder months to wear a wetsuit. That water is CHILLY! We got a little bit later of a start than I would've preferred, but it still worked out okay. If you're going during a colder part of the year (which is fine, we only saw one other group the whole day) try for late morning or early afternoon to give yourself the most sunlight in the canyon to warm up in. After the first rap the wetsuit can come off. We lost the trail out a few times, but never for very long. A GPS was extremely helpful, even with great directions.

Did it with John and the travel writer and what's his face!

05/15/2012

approx. date. first "pothole" canyon, used Klemheist anchor for retrievable on last rap

05/06/2011

Fun little canyon on a hot day in arches. Water was lower than expected so one pothole took a little effort to escape.
