A bit of mud. Beautiful. There are actually 11 rappels we did, 5 before the pretty part of the canyon. The approach to set the shuttle was really and in spots near edges of the road. Almost took my Suburban down a ravine.
Ran with Caylin in just over 5 hrs with a bike shuttle. We did move pretty slow and practiced with a fiddle stick along the way. We also opted to rap the first drop, which was about 115 ft, that the beta says to bypass. This rap was fun and worth doing but did require some careful planning due to the loose rock. The actual canyon section is short but beautiful with lots of raps packed in. All anchors were bolted and well maintained even when plenty of natural anchors were present. It was completely dry but there was evidence of mud in a handful of places. The hike back out was the main detractor from the whole experience. It was long and mostly on a 4x4 track in the open river bed. The last portion of the hike out is steep and rocky. It might be possible to drive with a capable 4x4 vehicle but it would be slow going.
Ran Birch with Hailey today. It was just us, we cruised through the canyon, though we did spend some time talking about anchors and rigging at a few of the rappels. The canyon itself couldn’t have been any better. Bone dry, perfect temperature, and we both loved it. We started at 3:15PM and brought a 61 m rope. Despite the beta saying we would have to extend it on the longer rap, we did not. If made it down just perfectly. Used one of Bob’s ropes. Took the wild wind exit which ended up being way more difficult than we thought and incredibly steep. We got lost for a little section, but managed to make it back on the trail and back to the car in about five hours car to car.
4 person group
#conditions Ran this on 06/27/25, no mud, no water, dry and fun. Ran this with a group of 10 and almost got stuck behind a guided 5 person group and a huge 14+ group of boys and leaders. Both groups let us pass at the second rappel which was great so we didn't see anybody else until we caught up to another group at the last rappel. FYI there is a bypass on the left (looking down canyon) or an alternate rappel set up off of a tree on the far right if you ever need to pass a slow group at the first rappel. All webbing and anchors looked great.
Snagged rope on longest rappel.
Fast run through! 1:50 car to car, via wild wind exit.
[notes in Canyon log, etc.]
Quite chilly, even on a nice day. Took about 3.5 hours from trailhead to Orderville Junction. A few extra rappels that weren't in the beta.
Steve, Jennie and I 2020 day before subway
45 minutes to the first rappel. 245 total to orderville.
Ooof - I took Bek and she was nervous going just the 2 of us. I thought there would be extra groups in the canyon as usual and none were there. I stuck the rope on 2nd or 3rd to last rap, and cut the rope with a rock an donated 30' of my 250' rope to the canyon. We finished out and took the wild wind exit back up. Total time 5 hrs 8 min. Long one.
Interesting canyon has a different character than any of the other canyons we did this week. The exit was brutal to the road.
Lots of rain recently in this area which has caused a lot of mud and erosion. My friend tried to do this canyon the day before but had to turn around due to the muddy road to get to the trailhead (deep ruts). We tried on the 3rd and were successfully able to get our minivan (carefully) to the Birch trailhead. We dropped a truck off at the Orderville trailhead (using a high clearance vehicle), the road was pretty rough. The mud was unreal on the trail, but also slippery and funny. We encountered snow on the ground, cool ice formations under the waterfalls, ice over the creek after exiting the canyon portion with 1-2" of mud on top of that ice. We noticed tons of erosion near the exit point where you hike up to get to the orderville parking lot. Basically the hillside has come down and been washed down from the creek. All the webbing looked good and the canyon was super fun with our group of 8. Be careful with all that mud and don't lose any shoes.
Just a quick trip with Kate. Took the Wild Wind Exit back. Total trip time 3 hrs 48 min.
2 cars preferred for sure. Enter through Zion NP. A lot of bush whacking getting to the first rappel. After that it’s straight forward. Beautiful raps in the slot. It was muddy but not a stream. Hiking out was brutal.
Ran with Kate, Justin and Ryan Madsen. Ryan's phone fell out of his pocket on a rap and exploded when it hit the rocks, RIP. My first time up Wild Wind Exit, and I got lost and schwacked, while Justin, Kate and Ryan hiked the road. I retrieved the car and picked them up. Total time with exit hike: 4 hrs 23 min.
EliseTimothy-Brides first canyon
Combine with orderville one of the funniest trips ever because of the Group.
Had a wonderful experience. Would have taken us about 8 hours round trip (2 people, perhaps with 2 out of 4 levels of experience) with the Orderville exit (and beginning with a bicycle shuttle: highly recommended) had we not caught a ride in a truck bed from some friendly fellow canyoneers. Entered the canyon via an ATV road (Engelstead Hollow) just south of the standard TH, which was a gradual descent to the first rappel, until a scree-filled slide down at the end. There is a social trail forming to guide canyoneers down. - Added a backup anchor on the tree for the long rappel. - Encountered a small knee-deep pothole after the final rappel. It is avoidable with a handline (probably) but I slipped in anyway. :) Otherwise, the canyon is dry. - Walls on the third-to-last rappel (or so) are slick like glass despite being dry. Take care on the rappel to keep perpendicular.

Easy and fun canyon. Passed a few groups. The wild bushwhack exit is well established and easy to follow. The last rappel had water that was easy to go around.

Shutled cars with Ryan Madsen and his friends; I did not know them. 3 hrs 20 min plus time to shuttle.
Quick canyon with great rappels! Make sure to bring a good vehicle to leave at the Orderville trailhead. It will save you a decent stretch of walking.
A shuttle would be best.
Was a total blast to take kids down Defiantly need 2 cars for this trip other wise it is a long and grueling hike back to the trailhead Went with Mikey and CJ.
Great Canyon. Short technical section. Easy hike in and out. Need shuttle.
Awesome canyon would do this in a heart beat again Went with Mikey and his 2 kids Oliver and Lucy
Dicks the day before
Wet. Very Wet. Lots of mud which slowed us down considerably. Exiting the canyon was difficult as the outclimb was very soft.
Mostly experienced group, some first timers, CO-guided.
Singles group 15 guided through

with orderville. 9 hours. 4 people. dry with a little mud and wasps
Lance and I - 5.5 hours. Next time need to bring a dirt bike and truck for shuttle and leave truck at orderville trail head. need to get there early and plan extra time to shuttle prior. we parked shuttle not far enough and spent about 3.5 hours hiking out. a lot of sun exposure and hiking up a dirt road. it's about 45 minutes to first rappel and an hour in the canyon. mostly a dry canyon but had one or two muddy spots
Second group, had a first timer freeze on rappel and had to rig top belay
CO-guided 23 first timers. Made it through in approx 4 hours
snowy at the top. lots of water. near swim st bottom of big rap
Between rappel 6 & 7 there is an additional rappel which is the same length as rappel 6 about 9m (30ft). So there was actually 9 rappels! Did a mountain bike shuttle so peddled from the ordervill trailhead to the exit trailhead too 30mins. Then from the exit trail head to the birch hollow trailhead was 45 mins.
Awesome canyon, pretty, but exit requires 2 cars or mountain bike, as it is a long walk back to the trail head.
There are actually 10 rappels! Sooo fun! Wear layers as it gets a little chilly through the canyon!
Second group
Co-guided singles trip through canyon
Britt, Dan, and I. This trip is when homebody freaked out and untied in the middle of the first rap!
First ever canyon!!
More raps than listed
Large group with Jared W. New canyoneering friends :)
Birch to Orderville. Melody, Ben and I. Exited via tubing the narrows. Super fun. But later found out it isn't allowed ;(

Really fun and beautiful raps.
Awesome canyon, great rapps, recommendation would be to place a car shuttle at the lower parking lot.
ym activity (date approx)
Frickin' awesome! Wre told this was a busy canyon, but didn't run into anyone else down there, maybe because we didn't get started until 9:30am. Lots of beautiful rappels, some short, some a little longer. Bring two 200 foot ropes and have the first couple of people down go set up the next rappel and things will go a lot faster. Long hike out can be made 2.2 miles shorter (still long) if you spot a 4-wheel drive vehicle 2.2 miles below the Orderville Canyon trailhead.
Guessing on date hiked. Really cool hike that got me into slot canyons. Repel after repel was awesome. If you were to park a truck(4x4) at the bottom there wouldn't be much hike out. Really fun trip.
Estimated date of first visit. Have done this canyon twice, once came out the top of Orderville, other time went all the way down Orderville and out the narrows. Probably go out Orderville if I do it again. Very fun canyon.
with Justin
Lots of snow and mud
Lance, Jen, Lance's Dad Tyler, Paul, Shara, Shara's son Alex. Took almost 8 hours! didn't leave the trailhead until 10:15 and got back to the car at 6. didn't listen to the advice I gave myself from last trip. we left the house at 7:10amit took us an hour to get to the West Zion entrance and another almost hour to get through Zion to the trailhead.then we needed to drop off the vehicles for the shuttle. both vehicles need to be high clearance vehicles, the last 2.5 miles to the orderville turn around parking area (road past the gate) is kind of rough and unable to drive in a car. if we shuttle correctly it will cut off 2.5 miles of hiking uphill on a dirt road and will make it much more enjoyable haha. we also we're pretty slow at every rappel with a couple newbies. we would benefit from at least two 120 foot ropes to set one rappel as the rest are coming down the previous rappel as each rappel is in pretty quick succession. the description says 8 rappels but I think we did 10 or 11.
