Very fun! Wetter than expected. In Upper there were some pools which Bryce and I avoided by climbing out of the canyon, walking over and dropping back in. Lower was less avoidable; we avoided some but had to wade through at least three pools. First wet one was only knee deep; the other two waist deep. Avoided one pool by climbing a tree, pretty fun. Multiple rappels and Bryce did a stellar job managing the rope. I managed to keep my cool mentally which feels like a great achievement. A good test; looking forward to more in the future.
Ran upper with Row!! We loved the bridge! Basically no water in the canyon, one pothole full of mud that did steal my shoe for a second.
With Richard and James, full upper and lower with optional raps and jug handle finish in the dark.
With Allison and David. Meat Anchored the climb around on the left and then had to ascend up the 3rd? rappel with the bad grooves to avoid the pool at the arch.
With Mc and crew. Long day. Need fill 200’ for last rap
With mikey and brenden, shuttled. Took us 5hr 34min with major pull cord snarl at end. Fun easy canyon, brought 40m and 60m ropes with pull cord.
With Mikey and Brenden. Shuttle version took us 5hr 34min with an hr+ pull cord snarl at the end:/ fun easy canyon. Brought 60m and 40m and pull cord.
With Jon (Amy’s husband), John and Brin (Canadian friends of Jon’s). Lots of good rappelling. A few down climbs that I was hesitant to do, especially ones where I was trying to avoid water. The exit is really long, but most of it is on a road so it’s pretty gradual.
Thanksgiving 2023 Party of 10. Full Granary
Sonata can make it close to the oil thinger. Take a 200' and a 66'. Also take long fiddle and 66 fiddle. On hike out we stayed in between the canyon and RTRyan's gps, not looping out so far and it worked out. Did with Ian, and happened to see Troy. Stuck rope on 90' rap.
Upper and Lower
Dots, Flanders, Pete, Kurt (Dana/Pete bachelor weekend)
ran with full land shark crew + austrians
With CHS, Jorge, Steph, Alec, and Jake
Upper Granary with Julie, Michele, Tom & Tami, Christine. M & I wore dry suits, but there were walk arounds for the really deep holes.
Not very scenic. Mostly just a walk down a wash with a few rappels thrown in. Almost all of the rappels had lips which made for an awkward start. 3 pools, the deepest one was thigh high. Muddy. Would probably be better in the spring when the canyon is green. Best part was the view above the canyon rim.
Final canyon assessment-North Wash Technical Canyoneering Class.
With Kip, Yoshi and Joel
With jamien and Matt Start 8 Canyon 8:15 End upper 10 (last rap, the tree is dead) Start lower 10:20 Exit route to keep trail 12:20 Car 1:40
Completed Upper with Dillon, long hot walk back. Completed around 2018 as well, with Christian and large group. Enormous final rappel, done in stages.
Busy but fun
Completed Upper Granary with Will and took the optional exit to the 4x4 after a rope snag and subsequent ascension slowed us down a bit. Bone dry with the exception of two mosquito pools.
Fun outing. Nothing extraordinary about the canyon but views were beautiful, we got out after upper granary.
The last rappel can be a little tricky to find.
Really enjoyed this I think we ended it a little early.
Nice, fun, and we did an alternate rappel for the final which was over 200 feet.
dry for weeks, Nels Jess Jackie Aiden and Tosh (Tosh for Upper only), still quite wet. 11 hours round trip. would be much shorter with experience in the canyon, and if didn't try to keep feet (unsuccessfully) dry.
We drove around the paved way on 313. Started around 9am. Upper canyon was pretty straightforward and had 8-9 rappels. The lower canyon took us a bit to figure out how to reach the pothole rappel. We had to scramble down two thin slots on the right. At the final bridge rappel, there was no webbing, so a fiddlestick would have worked on the bridge. We ended up adding some webbing. Hike out was OK. Took 6 hours for three of us. (Tyler, Clint and myself)
Fast and dry with Brock
More raps than described in guidebook. Large pothole at bottom was disgusting and traversing R looked sketchy. Waded it thigh deep. Last downclimb had a deadman half built so used that. Used retrievable anchors 3 or so times when anchor was not available.
Moab Rondy - did arch entrance
Natalie, Dots (Moab Half Marathon Weekend)
Fun! Did upper granary only. I did not use GPS and did not feel like I needed it. I used Google Satellite and studied the canyon before I went out.

Full Granary Canyon with ray(possibly Tyler)
Only upper
Outstanding! Had a little bit of trouble route finding near the beginning where a GPS device really helped us out.
A little tricky in bouncing between canyons at the top half. GPS should work at that area though. Raps are fantastic, and the view you come out to before the final rap is all time. A warm day for late October, but it still got quite chilly as we finished late in the day. Toyota Corolla was able to reach the start, but the road was a little dicey at times.
Day 2 - Moab **Extra webbing** 60m & 30m ropes
Granary was fun, wide open, with a few good tall raps. There were plenty of good natural anchor practice points in this one and I didn't see any fixed slings or bolts (except the last optional rap) which was nice. There was one rap into a puddle but we wall ran around it and fell into a tree to avoid the water for fun and it was pretty hilarious.
approx. date. could not find the correct final rap to the highway, used sketchy anchor east of the correct rappel, 200' rope barely worked, rapped at sunset, scary
Granary Canyon
Awesome trip. We had a blast!
Eh.
With Nick and friends for his BS party.
Upper section was ok, lower section doesn't follow the way you think it would. lower section was absolutely stunning!
pretty good
