Canyoneering I: With Bruce and Lindsey! (West Fork)
with Irina
Me Morgan mackaylee Grayson Isaac Syd 3hrs went up the right fork and down the left. The upclimb was easy with partner assist. One rap had webbing with knots to pull up. The sketchiest park was getting up the last rap we had to climb out earlier than the drywall on the right and then threw down rope to help others handling up Left fork was sweet. Cool raps that can mostly be down climbed little stemming some cool down climbs the girls killed it
Right fork was more technical down climbing, left was good (in the dark) Anchors solid but be prepared to build
Did a quick run of the left fork of Blarney on 1/12/2026 after doing Shillelagh. All webbing was in satisfactory condition. Canyon had a little water in it (a few avoidable pools).Weather was great but chilly, as expected for this time of year. Had a great time. Took our time, about 3 hours car to car with a group of 4 people.
Hiked up and went down the West Fork. Joel, Heather, Lucas, Stephen, Jill, Alex. 3 rappels for this group. A small amount of shin deep water encountered. Able to stem above except one I walked through cuz of shoulder injury
With Callie and Tim and Swede
Solid beginner intermediate canyon
Did Epic Blarney Loop
Met Scott! Unclimbed the right for with his kids and down limbed the left!
4:00 car to car with Dwight, Nancy, Brian, Dean, Kristin, Todd, Boone, and Keene. Party of 8. Dean’s first canyon! One shallow pothole, most stayed dry. Dean celebrated staying dry just a moment too early and stripped into the far end. Got shoes wet. Second time in this canyon. Great beginner canyon.
Pie, Brian, Dean (1st Canyon), Keene, Boone, Todd, Kristin 4hrsC2C, 100’ rope and 25’ hand line. Not squeezey. Great fun!
Ian, me, and a sprained ankle. Up West, down East. 2.5 hours. Had 100 and 66 fiddle. Was able to double rope and pull cleanly. Although anchor was back, 50 would work with a fiddle, but need to yank hard on pull so stick doesn't get stuck on chokestone.
Blarney left DK
Catherine and gee
First canyon of 1 day trip with Gretch. avoidable mud. all webbing in good condition. stuck carabiner for a bit.
Right fork with Anna, Andy, Isa, and Jorge!
Left fork with Anna!!
Left fork with Devin. Perfect weather.
Up left fork, down right fork. Solo, 5.5hrs. Spent some time setting up first rap since I hadn't done it in a while, and also the third rap sorting out how to climb down and load the well extended anchor. Minimal water and mud, just some small puddles here and there after rain several days earlier. Webbing on all anchors and the right fork up climb was in decent shape.
Decided to do Blarney (left fork) on 2-15-25 with a group of 3 first timers and 4 experienced. Canyon was dry even though it had rained the day before. Replaced a little webbing, but other than that, all anchors were in good condition. Amazing weather and a great time. (A quick reminder for those unaware to use a carabiner to shorten the webbing at the anchor for the rappel start for all but the last person--last person removes the carabiner to extend the rapide over the edge for a good rope pull and prevent rope grooves.)
Went up East (right Fork) and descended West (left) fork as part of the Lucky #7 challenge.
Blarney Loop: up right down left, solo. Car to car in 1.5 hours! Didn’t rappel anything. The 3rd rappel on the left fork was a little spooky to descend once I committed but it wasn’t difficult. The climb out of the right fork was easy and intuitive to follow. Really fun!
North Wash November 2024
Fall Break Canyoneering 2024
Ran left fork 11/10/24 in 2:05 despite another group of 17 in canyon with Josh and Jonah Ran right fork 11/11/24 in 1:30 with Jonah
Upclimbed R fork, descended L fork
7:40 am start. Went up East and the first hole had a pool, so I was nervous how muddy the upclimb would be, but it kind of dried up some as I went up. All the major climbs were dry enough. It stormed earlier in the week. 50 min from car to the top. West Fork of Blaney had two pools that you can get around with some strategic stemming. The temperature was about 50° and not bad at all. I was held up by three teenage hooligans. it took me about one hour to go down the west Fork.
East and West Forks - 6.5 Hours with large group, both forks, and a drone retreival detour (45 mins ish). With Elena, Meg, Jenn, Jacq, Emily, Sammie, Cynthia
Hiked from bottom With family - went just above 15’ upclimbs in both forks while they waited behind
Descended Left (west) fork, very cool! Then went up the right fork and were able to get all the way up and exit without ropes. Came back down the right fork. Downclimbs were manageable, very little water.
Brandon's bday weekend
Upper right, down left
Solo up the East, down the West. As long as it is dry and no shoulder injuries, this is the way to do it. The climb is fun and a little exercise. West last rap can be downclimbed. Anchor was far back with long webbing. Doubled rope so it wouldn't snag on boulder, but likely would be good with biner block because down canyon pull can be clean with a tug. *Camp note, first week of June and a 50 bag was too hot at first, but good around 2 or 3 AM MDT.
SO fun. Dylan and I decided to give the loop a go and loved it! Up the right fork and down the left, loved all the downclimbs and the teamwork needed to complete the loop.
Robert, Susan, Mike, John, me Right Fork of Blarney. Second annual birthday week extravaganza!
Bela, Hernanns, Lottie, and Tom. DRY, 5 hrs. We did the loop going up the RF and down the LF. we weren't sure of the bypass (we exited early, looks like can take slot up a bit further) but found an established trail to top of rim to get to LF. Fun upclimbs in RF, some lovely textured slots, maybe 1 assisted upclimb (used a leg for the shorter folks). LF 1st rap a bit of open bottom half, skipped 2nd rap-went down the rabbit hole, pretty easy DC. some fun downclimbs - a few elevators. lovely slots. shorter than i remembered!
North Wash trip
Took a female group of 10 through the canyon (for half of them it was a first time canyon). Very enjoyable weather and the canyon is beginner friendly--everyone had fun. The canyon has some fun downclimbs.
Tiff & Tiff L
Great beginner canyon. It's an easy intro to drops and slots.
Shaun and Tiff L
Fun 3 hour round trip
tyler
Went up the right (East) fork and down the left (west) fork. Super fun. There was a hand line that made one up climbs better and a partner assist with another. One mandatory rappel on the way down. Would do again!!
Left fork with Dwayne Campogan
Did this at night. Loved it
with G&P
left fork, on rap 3 make sure to throw your rope out as there are two tiers.
L fork
Myself, Lauren, Nick, and Alicia ran this canyon. Nick and Alcia's first official canyon! Great variation of awkward rappels, good stems, and some decent downclimbs. Nice, straightforward and brief approach. Some mellow slots and pretty features. Overall a nice mellow beginner canyon. Nick and Alicia crushed.
Bring extra webbing to back up anchors if needed. Easy approach and both forks are very interesting with the left fork being more desirable. This is a dry canyon and worthy of consideration for a full moon night descent in June when the moon is high. Reported that the light will shine up canyon.
At night
Jack is a scared man but did great. Travis put his shirt in that car.
Not as narrow as leprechaun, no water on this date, 2 rappels and lots of down climbing. Took our 6 person class 5 hours. second downclimb was the fun hole
Bumby and uncomfortable is how I would describe this one. The opening near the end was amazing though/
Up East, Down West. 8 people, 5 hours
Final canyon of my birthday week trip. Did left fork. Robert, Susan, Kevin, Kelly, Liz, Mike, Jenny, Tamara.
L fork
Up right down left fork
Up East, Down West
West fork. Spring break. Kathy fell.
West Fork, 12 of us, 2ish hours
Great little canyon. We had a group of 16 and it took us 4 1/2 hours. Kids from kindergarten to sixth grade. There was one wet section towards the end that you can stem across a pie or down low. But it’s tricky stemming. Some people walked through. We did five repels. The first one was definitely optional.
Fun!
West Fork and Up/Down East fork
North Wash one day
Greg and I did the left fork.
Beautiful!
Blarney West Fork. Choose the left, when a choice is placed before you ... Until the Sheleleigh fork. Although the last repel is intimidating from above, fear not. It can be done with a 66 foot rope and no fiddlestick just double the rope. As long as the webbing is down just a little bit. Worst case scenario, you can down climb it. today was wet conditions shin deep in the first puddle that I couldn’t avoid, but avoided the rest. Two hours.
Had planned on going up the east fork then down the west fork, but it had rained two days before and the canyon was very wet so I did not want to climb with wet shoes. Did the east fork from the top without a repel, found the sneaky way down
Fun short canyon. Lots of downclimbing and tight slot areas. Some stunning areas.
Friday morning with Maddie & Sam, late start & about 3 hrs total. More physical than expected
right fork
With caro Matt Sophia
Super fun and quick. Went up the right fork and down the left fork with 3 raps.
Solo. 1.5 hours car to car
Solo. 1.5 hours car to car
Fun. Couple of 20 foot down climbs and easy raps. Bring small rope (50-100ft) for down climb/ rap. There are 2- 50ft+ rappels
Second canyon ….
approximate date - did this with Braden, Levity and Brooke
Left Fork, 1hr 20min, solo
Went up the right fork, down the left, good canyon with decent exposure to problem solving and the like
Hiked up the right fork and down the left with Memo.
MCT training. Some tricky up climbs/down climbs 2 raps. 4:30h
Great canyon good anchorage tight approach easy
Nice Canyon, good colors and a good combination of items to make it interesting.
Ogden ACA group trip. Ran it with Izzy and Shalee! was a fun one with nice slot features and 3 easy raps
Right Fork. With Juan, Collin, Jeff, and Alf. Went right because left looked crowded. Quick and easy rap. Beautiful slot. Fun downclimb on hand rope. No snek sighting.
4hc2c,crowded,boone,krfelix,toni,rob,bri,pi,me. Boone's first slot. he kept up.
With WSS.
Did left fork very easy but fun. Some very cool rappels on this fork
With WSS.
Did right fork up and left fork down
Did both forks, lots of fun. Father and daughter were hiking up to right fork. Right fork had some longer down climbs but both are probably good for E.
West Fork - with Abigail
East Fork - Solo'd
Left Fork - solo
Very busy on a weekend due to it being so close to the road. Try to do on weekday if possible. Fun short canyon.
We did the Left Fork. I thought the hike up to the rim was pretty scenic and fun. Once at the top there are some big rappels that are easy. Lot's of narrow downclimbing on this one with some awkward moves but all doable. I liked some of the deeper sections where the light would creep down at funny angles. Once we got through the narrow bits Weston and Carson had a little wrestling match. I think Weston won! It took us 3 hours car to car including the wrestling match.
Really enjoyed the canyon!
Left blarney. Initial rap has downclimb left; looks hard but is easy Rap 2? Has rabbithole right easy downclimb Big rap has chockstone middle. Downclimbable by me. This can simplify anchor choices
East Fork
West Fork
West Blarney. Started at 6:30 pm, finished at 9:30 pm. North Wash Outfitters Advanced Canyoneering Class. Chad Jensen, Anthony Siech, Jared Hillhouse, Lisa, Tammy and Matt also came along.
Canyoneering chicks day 1
fun little canyon. Went with Quinn, Logan, Trevor, and Rosa. No water. we were behind a couple groups, car to car in about 4 horus
West Blarney. Or as I like to call it, Best Blarney. Started at 1pm. Long John Horton, Alysen and Jorden Guadignin, and Mark Hartner along with.
Favorite Canyon ever.
Lots of snow, ascended Right fork while decending Left fork. Only Rapped the first 2, then downclimbed the rest in left fork.
First ever canyon/rappel! Started ~ 3 pm, hiked out at dusk (5:30?)
Did this canyon with a group of four: two rock climbers, my inexperienced/timid wife, and myself. It took us 2.5 hours almost on the dot and we didn't move super quickly. What a fun, shorter canyon! We did the left fork and getting to the first rappel was super easy to navigate. The first rappel has a bit of an awkward start, but it very manageable after the first 5-10 feet. It had a nice overhang to it. Within 100 yards is the second "rappel," but after lowering three in the group I was able to downclimb without issue. The length of the downclimb might be intimidating, but the rock provides enough good places to step and stem that most confident canyoneers can do it. The slot sections were very nice in this canyon and I didn't see any major areas where water would pool. We had one final rappel that's scarier from above than it is once you are able to get your body under the chock stone. I would guess that very confident people have even downclimbed this section before, despite it being 10-15m deep. The slot section after this rappel is really nice! It was probably 20 minutes from here to the wash, which provided an enjoyable hike back to the trailhead. I absolutely would do this canyon again, though this is one I would definitely leave the dogs at home for -- it's much too narrow and has more downclimbing than would be enjoyable with the fur babies.
West Blarney - Took Dallin Atkinson, his wife Kalani, their daughter Kalea, and Noah and Alexis through. Loads of fun on the down climbs
U of U Canyoneering Class Level 1 - Led West Blarney
U of U Canyoneering Class Level 1 - Lead West Blarney
Completed Left Fork with Dad and Alisa
Approach is on the left hand side; stay left of the larger knob at the top of the slick rock and eventually come to a slab of tilted slick rock that takes you to the rim trail. The drop in has a slide style down climb across from the first rappel boulder. Most of the rappels after this could be down climbs if desired; one chockstone rappel towards the end can be done two ways. First way is between two stones that is an easier start but tricker rope pull, the second is over the second rock with extended webbing which can make the start precarious. Overall, took 3 hours and was a really fun slot.
Flo
Both forks
up right fork, down left, one of my favorites
left fork
We tried to go up the right fork and then down the left fork, but we got stumped at the first rappel and had to descend, then did left fork afterwards.
Took a gaggle of girls on this hike. We had so much fun! Never enough laughter to fill a canyon, but we undoubtedly did as we contorted ourselves in such a fun and enchanting place.
Completed Left Fork with Sarah Vancouwenberghe, Ryan Konesky, Danny Ryan, and Timmy Ryan.
Completed Right Fork with Sarah Vancouwenberghe
Fun day to show john and katie what it is up with sweet canyons.

Completed Left Fork with Andrew Stoye and Nick Wrzesinski
All fun, no fear! Great intro canyon to North Wash. We did this before Leprechuaun. Very cold in January, but no water in the canyon. We saw one group the entire weekend, and maybe two cars a day on the highway.
Left Fork, awesome!
Checking out the leprechaun loop
Blarney
few fun downclimbs, not skinny
Lee Katherine Goldstein, Hendrick Schmidt, Erek Burek
Tracy, Judy, Joanne, Liz and Heidi. beautiful canyon and super fun.
second canyon.
Dry. Fun.
First time leading a canyon. did it with a group of 8. fantastic canyon, easy route finding. we rappeled 2 times. good webbing on anchors, bone dry
Blarney left fork was bone dry. There was a fourth anchor set up which i didn't use and dow climbed. 3rd rappel a piece of webbing was quite weathered and we decided to use double anchor behind. https://youtu.be/Lr9qMg6tGjw
east fork w/ mike
beautiful canyon
Left Fork
Went with Matt Killian, a friend of his and Landon and Janelle. Did the left fork. Matt and his friend were new to canyoneering so we went slow but it was a good time.

!st canyon ever! With Kash, Joe, and friends.
Took my parents down the left fork
Left fork w/John and Owen
Great beginner experience.
Fun Night Canyon
Left fork only
Both forks
both east and west forks. East Fork entrance is deceiving drop down one level and you will find it. both work well with 66-ft rope and fiddlestick. accidentally down climbed third wrap on the west fork. so really could do just one repel in Westfork Canyon
day after rain, did 5 rappels
date is a guess. Bill,Roxy, pie,me. their first slot.
did left fork. nice.
